I'm left a little confused but also I liked it? As another Goodreads reviewer described "Like if the Brothers Grimm, Crimson Peak, The Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty & the Beast were all mashed together into a Feverish Sexy Gothic Fairytale inside the set of the ballroom scene from Labyrinth." and I found that to be a very accurate description. Certainly it had major fever dream vibes. Romantic, repulsive, gorgeous, carnal, disorienting.
