My daughter who is ten just finished the book and said she didn't like it as much as two of her other favorites, "The Front Desk" (Kelly Yang) and "The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl."
She did finish the book and said did not understand the purpose of some of the characters that were introduced - What was the point of them? Why did the author include them and not give some kind of resolution or conclusion. Nor did she like the ending or the stepmother.
I realize that's not much of a review, but perhaps this is a book meant to be read to a class or with a parent to discuss the subject matter. There are lots of reviews by adults, but not by children. Just something to think about.
