This charming historical fiction novel about an eleven year old girl in 1920's Oregon is inspired by a true historical fact. Lexie wants nothing more than to write the best essay about the friendship dolls that will be leaving San Francisco to live in their new home in Japan. The friendship doll exchange which was organized in 1926 by Dr Sidney Gulick, sent over 12,000 dolls to Japan in hopes of avoiding a future war. Lexie has another reason to be the winner. She will get to see and live with her Flapper mother who is part of the festivities in San Francisco. I would recommend this book of historical significance to both young and older lovers of the historical fiction genre.
