alternates between very slyly-dryly funny to really overtly funny, hilarious dialogue. Also, this was very emotionally appealing, I could not put it down, the heroine was riveting, actually all the main characters were. The imagery, the country side descriptions were wonderful, romantic scenes very delicious. Recommend reading the series in order, because they are a deceptively light appetizer for Moning's swooningly-fabulous darker, more apocalyptic Fever series. This is the kind of book, if you went out with your gal friends to "Magic Mike's Male stripclub" celebrating life's endings & beginnings, and you all brainstorm the ultimate women's action adventure/fantasy/romance novel with much laughter. I also love it that the women heroines & authors are empowered, get to orchestrate and experience delicious romance scenes, no roofie-like or shame/fear-based "fades to black". These books are unlike male-oriented sci-fi/action adventure/fantasy that I'd read from the 1950-2015, where women are victims, sex-slaves, identical clones, incubators, brood mares, don't even get mediocre sex, then are killed, and their bodies used for meat, leather.
