Fitz stopped in front of a bedroom fit for a princess – huge, canopied bed, crystal chandeliers, and glass walls overlooking the lake. “this is you. If you need anything, my room’s just down the hall.”
Her heart did that weird fluttery thing when their eyes met, and she had to look away to speak clearly. “thanks for your help today. I don’t think I coud’ve gotten through all this without you.”
He cleared his throat. “I don’t deserve your thanks,”
“Why?”
He kicked the ground, “Because – I knew what was going to happen and I didn’t tell you when I ae you come with me. I never realized it woud be hard for you to move here – not until I found you there on the floor. I feel like I ruined your life.”
“Fitz.” She paused to find the right way to explain the crazy emotions spinning through her. “Today was hard. But you were right about what you said yesterday. This is where I belong.”
I'd rather be punished for making the right decision than live with the guilt of making the wrong one the rest of my life.

Other: 1. This book cannot be put down until you have finished it. 2. there is a little bit of violence in the series, so I would not recommend this to younger children 3. There is a little crushing and feelings and stuff, so if you are uncomfortable reading this kind of stuff, I suggest you don't start this series.

Summary
Add a SummarySophie Foster is a 12-year old girl, but she is hiding something. Ever since age five, she has had the ability to read minds. Suddenly, she meets a boy named Fitz. He tells her that there is nothing wrong with her brain. She is an elf, and a Telepath. Sophie is whisked into a world of adventure, intensity, and magic. This book will almost always get you hooked, if you're reading it for the first or 100th time.
P.S. Go Team Foster-Keefe-Vacker-Diznee!
Sophie foster is a 12 year who is in high school. She's never fit in at school or at home. But that all changes when she meets a smart (and super cute) boy who takes her to a place with people just like her. She quickly makes friends. But even a perfect world has it's faults...
Sophie Foster, a 12-year-old high school senior, is hated by her classmates. She never really belonged or fit in anywhere…until a mysterious boy arrives and shows her that there's a place where she belongs. Suddenly her whole life changes. But just because she belongs doesn't mean that everyone likes her. It also doesn't mean that she's so safe, either…
Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit into her life. She’s skipped multiple grades and doesn’t really connect with the older kids at school, but she’s not comfortable with her family, either. The reason? Sophie’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. No one knows her secret—at least, that’s what she thinks…
But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone. He’s a Telepath too, and it turns out the reason she has never felt at home is that, well…she isn’t. Fitz opens Sophie’s eyes to a shocking truth, and she is forced to leave behind her family for a new life in a place that is vastly different from what she has ever known.
But Sophie still has secrets, and they’re buried deep in her memory for good reason: The answers are dangerous and in high-demand. What is her true identity, and why was she hidden among humans? The truth could mean life or death—and time is running out.

Comment
Add a CommentWow! I just loved this book! Still haven't gotten to read the 3rd book, but the first was enough to capture my attention and keep me entranced. Shannon Messenger's roller coaster of a plot, intricate characters, and unique spin of words are AMAZING!!! There's some humor, romance, and just lots of fun. As a person who ADORES middle-grade "children's fiction" this has become one of my favorite series. Even after you finish the book you continually want more. It might not be for everyone, but I found it so compelling and beautiful. The struggles Sophie faces could be related to anyone and Messenger builds a bold character that will keep fighting with every ounce of strength she has left. Just like Sophie, this book (and series) is totally out of this world.
Sophie Foster is a Telepath, and for years she has been trying to hide her gift and block the thoughts of others until one day she meets a boy named Fitz who seems to know about her abilities. He takes her to a strange world where powers like hers are common. Sophie discovers a new life, but it means leaving her family and all that she has known behind, but she really has no choice. Her new family and new school are so much different from her previous life, but it isn't long before she finds that her abilities not only made her special in her old world, but they also make her special in this new world, and those abilities are going to make her new life even more difficult than in the old one.
I enjoyed Keeper of the Lost Cities more than I thought I would and the annotations in the margins of many of the pages in this edition of the book are at least part of the reason. Comparisons could be made to Harry Potter and Twilight, but the details make this story unique. The many characters are clearly developed and defined in the story, making their journeys more interesting. Sophie did, however, seem to be able to forget her previous life pretty easily, but overall, Keeper of the Lost Cities is a very good beginning to what I believe will be a great series.
No.
This book and series is incredible! Sophie and her friends are all so devolped through out the story and Shannon Messenger does a phenomenal job! This might be one of my favorites out of all (so far!!) 5 stars for every book!!!
Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger is about a girl named Sophie
Foster who is different from everyone else around her, since she has the unique
power of telepathy. Her life changes when she meets Fitz, who has the same powers
as her. He takes her to the world where she belongs, where she has to start a new
life and master new skills in order to survive in that world. I really enjoyed this book
and would recommend it, since the book was very interesting and I really enjoyed
watching how Sophie changed to adapt to her new environment.
I adored this book it was the best thing I have ever read.
I was up every single night reading it, it just pulls you in and you can't stop flipping the pages.
so I would say to read this book and the whole series, I would probably read these books over and over again. And I'm twelve BTW and I think all ages over nine should read this book and all the series.
The Keeper of the Lost Cities is an amazing series you can’t help but love. It is the story of an elf like no other, Sophie Foster, who grew up in the human world believing her human parents were truly her family. At the age of 12, she discovers the truth behind her constant headaches - she’s a telepath. And that’s when everything changes. She meets Fitz, an elf from the Lost Cities, who takes her there to be with her kind. With new friends, adopted families, some crazy elves, and innumerable secrets, Sophie sets off on the journey of her life in this incredible series by Shannon Messenger. I started this series in 7th grade and truly enjoy this series. Sophie is a unique yet relatable character and the story was written so well I felt as though I was a part of it, experiencing everything for myself. I can’t wait for the continuation of this series and I definitely recommend reading it no matter how old you may be.
Age Rating: 9-10+
If you don't read this sereies right now, you're missing out on something amazing, awesome, and unbelievable. I'm a lover of books and I can rarely find the series that fits me, but these books are amazing, once I pick it up I honestly can't put it down (literally, I need help). I don't know how to put how awesome this series is in words! My favorite characters are *spoilers below * Silveny and Keefe :). In my opinion, I think it's a bit overwhelming for Sophie to have 5 abilities (thats way too much lol). My favorite book in this series is 1. Keeper of the Lost Cities (book 1) 2. Everblaze 3. Nightfall. Love this series, but PLEASE WRITE THE NEXT BOOKS FASTER SHANNON PLEASE
I LOVE this series and it got me back into reading when I was taking a break. It is full of mystery, action, romance, suspense. It is a book for any age and is a great book for fantasy lovers.
I found this very compelling until near the end. The big question of why Sophie was left to be brought up by humans remains unanswered until later in the series.
