We read this not knowing who the author is, but it checks out that she turns out to be a "lifestyle" guru. The illustrations are charming and the message to keep trying despite setbacks is positive. But the story, as written, felt like one long, cloying humblebrag better suited for a social media post than a children's book. (Plus there is something vaguely patriarchal about the family's dynamic, which grossed us out.)
