Dexter
meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith in this wildly compulsive debut thriller about a couple whose fifteen-year marriage has finally gotten too interesting...

Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored.

We look like a normal couple. We're your neighbors, the parents of your kid's friend, the acquaintances you keep meaning to get dinner with.

We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive.

Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

I agree with what others have said - disturbing book, BUT, I finished it in two days, as there are lots of twists and turns and I couldn't wait to get to the end.

Excellent book with a lot of twists and turns. Definitely one of the best books I've read in awhile. Another reviewer is incorrect when she alleges a cat gets killed.

This was wrongly described as a psychological thriller. It is a gruesome story about serial killers. The characters are two dimensional and there is no indication of why they do it or what they are thinking. It was so awful that I went to Amazon reviews and found most other readers agreed with me. Apparently there is a twist near the end of the book. Somebody kills a cat so I'm glad I abandoned the book without finishing.

I only read half of this novel. I did not care for the plot content. It is very unusual for me not to finish a book once I have started it, but did not like the story line.

4.5 Dazzlingly dark, deliciously disturbing, maliciously manipulative, super twisted stars

This one definitely does not seem like a debut! Super short chapters and awesomely interesting content make Samantha Downing's thriller 'My Lovely Wife', compulsively readable! With her first novel she has proven herself an author to watch for. I know I'll for sure be searching high and low, as well as counting down the days until I hear any info on her next brillant novel! Now, If you read the blurb and think: it sounds far fetched...just know your wrong, and also clearly have too much faith in humanity [I'm half kidding] -read this novel to be shocked and surprised at every clever twist and turn.
If you know anything about people, pyschology, crime, or betrayal....you already realize this plot has basis in reality, and is not only possible, but also even probable in the right [or very wrong?] mix of people and circumstances, -still....read it and you'll be thrilled and also surprised by multiple reveals. I cant say I was completely in the dark until the end, but I can say I was held captive from the opening words to the last page. This novel is completely engrossing! It sucks you into the vivid lives of these malicious, vindictive, interesting characters, and is literally enthralling to the max! I Couldn't wait to know everything that would happen, and I was dying to reach the last page to discover how it all ended! The characters aren't just well drawn...they are alive and lingering within my brain even now! Exciting, thrilling, suspenseful, darkly twisted, wickedly demented (in such a lovely way) , and amazingly written! I can 100% gurantee you wont be able to stop reading...do yourself a couple huge favors: go into this one blind and pick it up now!

I have mixed feelings on this one. It's pretty original (e.g., a serial killer worries about how his lifestyle might be affecting his children!) and quite twisty. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's also told from one POV rather than multiple, which is unusual for most of the thrillers written in recent years. On one hand that perspective worked fine, but I was left wanting in the end. It might have been nice to see things from another perspective (not saying who that other is, but I imagine it's easy to guess). I just felt the "voice" of the story was a bit flat and didn't always capture the emotion of the story. With that said, I was far from bored while reading it so I'll be on the lookout for more from Samantha Downing in the future.

Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A match made in heaven?? Or hell? Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s really going on behind closed doors...

Realtor Millicent and her tennis pro husband have been married for many years. Sometimes marriages can bring out the best in people, and sometimes the opposite can be true. In this case, it’s definitely the opposite. Boredom and complacency have inspired a very alternative lifestyle. By contrast, these two are both very hands on and loving parents to their two children...so just what is going on here exactly?

As we learn more about Millicent and her husband - how they met, their childhoods and current friends - we learn more about their motivations for today. Do like minded people seek each other out? Or has one person in this couple just become a very bad influence on the other...only time will tell!

Pros: Some super fun, dark scenes play out in My Lovely Wife, and the ending was great!

Cons: For a thriller, I found parts of it quite slow moving.

YES or NO: It’s a dark and thrilling YES - this is a great, unpredictable thriller!

This one got my attention when it was described as "Dexter meets Mr & Mrs Smith". Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to reading a second book by this author.
