A super-charged comedy that explores the eternal question: must you change your lifestyle in your thirties, or can you keep partying until the bitter end?

Laura and Tyler are two young women who have been tearing up the city streets for ten years, leaving a trail of angry drug dealers and spent men in their wake. Now Laura is engaged to be married and her teetotal classical pianist fiancé, Jim, is away overseas. Tyler wants to keep the party going, but Laura is torn between the constant temptations provided by her best friend and the promise of a calmer life with Jim on the horizon. As the wedding draws closer, the duo’s limits are tested, along with their friendship.

Animals is hilarious, honest, raw and thoroughly moving. It is about deciding when it's time to grow up and recognizing what must be left behind if you do.

There were way too many drugs in this book for my liking. The story was much grittier than what I was expecting. Basically, it is 200 pages of the two female friends getting drunk and doing drugs. Other threads of the story aren't very well developed...I won't go into the details as to not spoil the story. The language used in the book is fairly challenging (there were many words on every page that I wasn't familiar with), this felt to me to be a bit in conflict with the plot, considering that the main character is basically smashed the whole time.

All that being said, there were bits and pieces that were quite funny...so I kept reading to the end.

This book made me cringe and laugh out loud. It took me back to flatting with friends in my twenties and what we got up to. A great portrayal of female friendships and how intense they can be and how painful it can be when people change.
