"The first new novel in four years from the beloved superstar author of Sarah's Key, a heartbreaking and uplifting story of family secrets and devastating disaster, in the tradition of THE NEST. "Hypnotic, passionate, ominous and tender--unforgettable." --Jenna Blum, New York Times and internationally bestselling author of Those Who Save Us The Rain Watcher is a powerful family drama set in Paris as the Malegarde family gathers to celebrate the father's 70th birthday. Their hidden fears and secrets are slowly unraveled as the City of Light undergoes a stunning natural disaster. Seen through the eyes of charismatic photographer Linden Malegarde, the youngest son, all members of the family will have to fight to keep their unity against tragic circumstances. In this profound and intense novel of love and redemption, De Rosnay demonstrates all of her writer's skills both as an incredible storyteller but also as a soul seeker"--

I looked forward to reading this book - thinking it would be on a par with "Sarah's Key". It left me disappointed, and wanting to finish reading the story.

This book was nowhere as good as Sarah's Key but did keep my interest enough to finish. If you like family drama and if you absolutely LOVE Paris you will like this book.

Ms. de Rosnay is an amazing writer!! "Sarah's Key" was one of the most poignant books I have ever read. She has a wonderful ability to create great characters with complicated emotions and histories. I have never been disappointed by one of her books. She makes the 2016 Paris flood an ever present threat - almost another character. Highly recommend!! Kristi & Abby Tabby

Just not enough for me to finish the book. The cast were modern day Bohemians - father a tree hugger, son a photographer, easy going Aunt Candice, alcoholic in-law...The characters were descriptive but underdeveloped. "The Rain Watcher" was as exciting as watching rain.

A sad tale of the Malegarde family and the flooding of Paris, France. The Malegarde family consist of father Paul, mother Lauren, daughter Tilia, son Linden.

Linden is a world famous photographer who has never told his world-renowned arborist father that he is gay. The family have gathered in Paris to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary when Paul suffers a stroke during an unprecedented rainfall that floods Paris.

The writing lets you picture the devastation of Paris, the wonder of Paul's estate trees, the photographs Linden has taken. You can feel the emotional impact of life and weather events.

It is not a happy story but it is so well written that it deserves the 5/5 rating.

I volunteered to read an ARC from St. Martins Press through Net Galley. (less)
