I read The Root Cellar at age 10. I am 43 now and through my life I have remembered the name of this book as well as the author's name! I bought it for my little cousin years ago and now have it on hold to read with my 8 year old daughter. I am so excited to go back in history with my little girl and show her how The Root Cellar brought me joy.

This title was one of my all-time favourite childhood books. It was given to me by my Mom. I remember reading the blurb and thinking that it sounded kind of dull. History? Booooring! And then I started to read it and was proven completely and totally wrong. I loved it. I read it over and over again. I am happy (and relieved) to say that as an adult, I still loved it. I spent every available minute reading it this holiday weekend it and if I hadn't so many plans, I'm pretty sure that I would have finished it in less than a day. Another successful chapter in my Childhood Favourites Experiment!
