While I don't watch her show or consider myself a fan, I do like Gaines' philosophy about food. Her cookbook is a compilation of relatively simple recipes, nice photography, and personal anecdotes.

Our time together in the kitchen and countless hours we have spent around the table are my favorite memories of all.

Food is personal. It's like the musical soundtrack to our lives, and it can take us back to a particular moment in time - good or bad. Food is also emotional. It connects us to our past.
