I love movies with food as a prevalent theme. So all you foodies, this is an excellent film. Yes, it's subtitled, but draws you in quickly. *just like "Le Chef" another great food movie. Check them both out, you'll be happy you did. *also check out the wonderful disc 2, special features.

VERY GOOD quirky, comical 1985 Japanese film with LOTS of non-sequential modern film flavorings. Fine work by director Juzo Itami in this ramen Western.

Want ramen so bad now! Good restaurant ramen, hot and tasty...mmmm...

Some of the side-stories were hilarious, but a lot were just weird or disturbing (also there is adult content!), like I really could've skipped the dental scene, the raw egg, the oyster, and some of the violence. But overall a highly entertaining movie and I really loved the main plot and the ramen chef lady!

p.s.-I think that bit with the live shrimp(?) inspired that horrifying scene in The Matrix...

p.p.s.-just re-watched the movie and it's even funnier/fun a second time :)

A re-release of the 1985 Japanese classic - - a delightful romp through culinary mastery, helped along by the Lone Trucker and the accumulating band of culinary ronin.
Warning to the prurient: there are several obvious culinary/erotic scenes, and several subtle scenes which are frequently missed.
Although the title, Dandelion [Tampopo] is adequate, it could have easily been titled The Way of Ramen or Showdown at the OK Ramen Shop [the genius of Itami!].
The second Special Features DVD contains some fascinating stuff and I was pleasantly surprised by how the movie advisor, Seiko Ogawa [food scientist/master chef], explained everything about the movie and what director Itami sought to convey - - Ms. Ogawa's understanding was truly formidable!
[An interesting interview with actress Fukumi Kuroda {actress from the erotic food scenes} and her promotion of the Korean entertainment industry, et cetera: ]

A comical look at food preparation and a community working together to help a charming widow save her Ramen Noodle restaurant. Also, you just might learn some unique cooking tips along the way!

Saw Tampopo ages ago, thought it was good and quirky. Recently, a group of Japanese teen agers talked about this movie and I thought that was odd why would know about this classic. Now I know, they rereleased it. Good to see it again.
