Vera is by far my favourite series. She is the best. All the actors do a stellar performance.

We have watched all 7 seasons of Vera and enthusiastically recommend it. This procedural investigative series stars Brenda Blethyn in the titular of Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope and her team of constables and sergeants, and it’s characters are based on Ann Cleve’s novels. The drama centered around Newcastle is well produced with plenty of possible perpetrators. Vera is a bit curmudgeonly and is consistently underestimated by folks she’s investigating. It is gratifying to watch her and her team puzzle out the mystery and find the culprit.

Inspired on the award-winning novels by Ann Cleeves. Amidst the sweeping landscapes of rural Northumberland, Vera Stanhope (Blethyn) and her assistant Aiden Healy confront brutal crimes that challenge even the genius of Vera for solving cases.

This season Vera and Aiden investigate the deaths of a woman found on the moors; a young man who worked at a traveling fairground; a fisherman pulled from the sea; and a mysterious double murder.

This is just a great series. All the actors give great performances, from the lead character and cast regulars down to the supporting characters.

Season Eight was shot in 2018. Producers say there will be a ninth season. I've heard that Brenda Blethyn may not be back for it. Season Seven may have been the best so far.

Very good selection of complex stories. Not much violence but plenty of brain work.

If you have a tablet|laptop|smartphone and can add Hoopla to your apps, you can stream this whole season with your library card! No waiting!
Brenda Blethyn keeps Vera going so nicely. Some have said that her vernacular speech becomes tiresome, and yet I see her DCI job as one where she must disarm people and get them to say more than they intended - there's a need to create a bond, however fleeting. Aiden Healey's character develops nicely and Kenny, and Hicham are there, but Marcus, the pathologist, has been replaced by the handsome Tony, who is equally adept at obtaining silent clues from the dead. Helen, the saucy Intel Analyst is conspicuously absent, but the Northumberland countryside (as important a character as any other in the series) does not disappoint - so lovely!

Ninety-minute shows are perfect for an evening; short, but long enough for good character development and plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing!
Another win; looking forward to #8!

Rated 10/10. As usual this season of Vera was just a s good as the others.

All four stories were excellent, along with the straight forward acting.

An 8th series started filming earlier this year. So, we will have that to look to next year.

There are only 4 discs in the container. Each has only 1 episode. They can be watched in any order. These stories have so far not appeared on the local PBS stations/KNOWLEDGE Network.
Very enjoyable to watch with good story lines.
