Rated 10/10. Excellent prequel to the original Prime Suspect series, although I note that it has been re-titled from Prime Suspect 1973, at least for DVD distribution.

It has much the same flavour as Endeavour did for the Morse series, and both leads were in episodes of that prequel, too.

I find it extremely disappointing that this series will not be returning for a second season. It would have been fun seeing how the Helen Mirren character climbed the ranks.

Even as a stand alone show, it was a good effort, catching the era of 1973 very well. It reminded me a lot of the Life on Mars series which also takes place in the 1970s.

I just watched the first episode and I find the characters very intolerant of female officers, constantly putting them down and extremely rough with suspects. (I know they are the bad guys, but really???) I know it was 1976 and women had no rights but a little respect would be in order. Continued in a very male chauvinist theme with the police officers. Other than the sexism, the story was okay. I thought the makeup was pathetic and so obviously fake, poor production all around.
