THE NEW CHILLING, PROPULSIVE NOVEL FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.

If you can’t trust yourself, who can you trust?

Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods. It was on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, and a woman was sitting inside—the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm, and she probably would have been hurt herself if she’d stopped. Not only that, her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home.

But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing. Where she left the car; if she took her pills; even the alarm code.

The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.

And the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…

You won't be able to put down B. A. Paris's The Breakdown, the next chilling, propulsive novel from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors.

Interesting plot but the main character is very weak. She comes across as dumb and too wishy-washy.

I just finished this book. For quite a few chapters I thought seriously about returning it, because it was just not terrific, but then I got into it enough that I wanted to know whodunit... while the beginning told how it started, I think Paris spent way too much time with that part of the book. Later, way later, I was glad I stayed with the book. I was flipping pages as fast as possible. So, if u want to know whodunit and you're just about to send it back, keep reading...it gets better, much better. You'll be glad you stuck with it. Happy Reading! 4 stars only tho.

Its a page-turning thriller that will leave you guessing, if you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? Why she didn't stop and help the woman in the car; who would be found dead.

I have a feeling that this book was moldering in a drawer someplace until Paris had a hit "first" novel. Breakdown shoulda stayed in that drawer.

I only wish there were more books by B.A. Paris. I really like how she writes. Her novels are clean, suspenseful, characters seem real with many dynamics. I’ve read the three of hers that are available and enjoyed her writing in all.
The only thing about this book is I wish it had a bit more zip in the end, but it was good nonetheless.

I quite enjoyed this book, and it did keep me guessing somewhat, but the genre is becoming quite predictable and that did take away from my enjoyment a bit. Overall, a good story though not as shocking as Behind Closed Doors.

I was disappointed with this book. The first 240 pages were repetitive. I kept reading because her first book was so engrossing I thought this one must get better. Unfortunately the outcome was predictable. The happenings were also so agonizingly spelled out it was as if the author didn't feel the reader could figure it out without being spoonfed.

I loved the book and I could not put it down. Interesting, hard to imagine the ending, well written. Highly recommended. Main character complicated, easy to relate to, the contrast between idealistic cottage life and the horrific story unfolding kept me engaged.

From someone who has about a million different things going on at any given time and who finds themselves often asking "Did I..?"/"I could've sworn I..."/"I did that?" - this book will make you question yourself and everything you're reading as the story progresses. It's an edge of your seat psychological thriller revolving around the murder of a local woman, whom the main character later realizes she had lunch with a couple of weeks ago. As the main character has increasingly disturbing lapses of memory, she quickly spirals downward toward a "breakdown". The book will drag you into its depths of "Did I...?"
