Almost impossible to "rate" comedy, since one person's humour is someone else's 'huh?' moment.
We absolutely loved the characters and the jokes. Great fun!

I have to believe this was only loosely based on the most minimal elements of a true story and heavily adapted to inject stupidity for the sake of humour. Not a complete write-off but not one for analysis.

Hilarious! This really is based on a true story, with some creative & comic freedoms taken of course. Zach G & Kristen Wiig have fantastic comic chemistry together. So funny!

I don't usually watch these types of movies but I thought i would give it a go. It was pleasant and very interesting to watch. The actors did well, especially Zach.

Terrible- I'm not quite sure why the current crop of ' comedians ' think doing stupid things is funny- it isn't- it's just stupid. This movie is actually based on a true story- I would have preferred to see a film based on the actual story, rather than this puerile pile of glop. Minus 5 stars- it's really painful to watch- like a high school skit that goes horribly awry and goes on for too long.
Jason Sudekis really stinks this film up but good- he might consider switching to a career in real estate. Zach Galilfanknasis can actually be an intelligent and funny comedienne when he puts his mind to it- WHY would he waste his time in such a piece of garbage?- maybe he needs the money.
Think of the film as an IQ Test- if you think it's funny or a good film YOU are a moron.

So many LOL moments, even if you start the movie in a bad mood you end up with a smile. It would have been so easy to fall into the realm of the ridiculous &/or ludicrous, but this movie somehow seems to find the right balance and makes you care about the characters, yet still be able to laugh at them.

Many of my favorites from SNL makes semi-comedy based on the true story of a huge bank heist. I didn't find it laugh-out-loud funny, but I did find it humorous and i enjoyed watching the story unfold. BE SURE TO WATCH TJE BONUS FEATURE! he have an interview with the actual guy who did the robbery and the FBI agents who caught him. I tis fascinating to learn what parts of the story as filmed with the SNL characters are true and which are made up. I was astounded! Just kind of a fun way to spend a lazy rainy afternoon or evening!

I go in to watching Masterminds, looking at the cast and plot (based on a true story), expecting a sufficient movie to entertain me for 90 minutes and make me laugh. I start watching and quickly realize it's even more than that. Masterminds wasn't just an average movie to me: it was hilarious, had very little in the way of flaws or unnecessary dialogues or jokes, had heart, emotion, had Zach Galifianakis being awesome, and so much more.

"I'd rob a thousand banks for you Kelly Campbell." Ahhh.... I even had to shed a couple tears!

This was a great joy to watch and a really fun, awesome movie! Nicely done to the "masterminds" behind it and the great actors in it!

P.S. Looking at all of these sterile reviews below me after I made my own (which I try to make free of bias of other's opinions) really makes me want to say: Geesh, why so harsh? Maybe you're a lot older than me and more bitter or something or different taste in comedy but I honestly don't believe this movie merits these harsh comments with little in the way of positive ones. But to each their own I guess!

If I didn't know this was based on a true story I would have stopped watching it after 15 minutes. It was like a bad Saturday Night Live skit that just wouldn't stop.

Amateurminds for the title might be more appropriate for this comedy, directed by Jared Hess who brought us "Napoleon Dynamite 2004." Inspired by the Loomis Fargo Bank robbery in Oct 1997, the writers force fit the plot and scenes for the actors, resulting in a overly "foolish" script to a serious bank job. Viewers who laughed at Napoleon Dynamite, Anchorman 1 & 2, Zoolander 2, Welcome to Me, 21 Jump Street etc. should get many chuckles without cringing.
