People spend a trillion dollars a year on high-tech tests, and yet almost 20 percent of patients are misdiagnosed. It reintroduces the oldest diagnostic method, listening to the patient, by following two leading cardiologists from Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Valentin Fuster and Dr. Herschel Sklaroff, over a one-month period as they care for critically-ill heart patients in the Cardiac Care Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Watching this made me very curious about what exactly is being taught in medical school and internship if students aren't being taught the same diagnostic techniques that the doctors were employing in this documentary. Isn't being able to accurately assess illness within your specialty via all known methods the very essence of being a doctor? I'm guessing that this incredible deficiency is probably a major part of the reason I've been disappointed with every single doctor I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

We all need to take the time and look into this very interesting medical subject that has worked for many years and now needs to be again placed on top of the list before it is dead.

Wish there were more doctors like these two! Hopefully we find a 'happy-medium' or go back to truly listening. Technology is great for confirming but should not be used ALL the time.
