Rated 8/10. Other than the initial faked horse maiming scene, this was a darn good story.

Good acting and plot makes this a winner.

Had us glued to our seats, we love Martin Clunes from Doc Martin, who would have thunk it but he is an excellent actor, never would have guessed it was him in the movie apart from the list of keeps you in suspense the entire movie, are his initial instincts right about the culprit and about the innocent party? Can he be Sherlock Holmes in real life, following the clues as they are found, or just the popular author who sets up all the clues and writes the endings first to make it easier to plot the story? Great stuff, another BBC/PBS production for our detectelation.....

An Enjoyable period movie! A very interesting, unique story! A great cast of characters! Well-done! The scenery is beautiful! I recommend it!

Not a comedy. Not Sherlock Holmes. Just good acting and a good mystery. Not really much action, but tries hard to be believable. Since it is based upon a true story and the British don't take the kind of license Hollywood does, this might seem slow. Lovely scenery and vintage rooms and furniture make it fun.

Boring; just couldn't get into it. Kept trying when it was on PBS, but it never grabbed me.
I was disappointed in Martin Clunes, whom I've greatly enjoyed in other shows, but not this one.

A warning about the subject matter--the crime in this movie is a graphic story of animal deaths by mutilations. That said, I really enjoyed this story about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The true story mystery was interesting and kept me engaged to the end.
