1715. New Providence Island is a lawless territory, controlled by notorious pirate captains. The most feared is Captain Flint. As the British Navy returns to exterminate Flint and his crew, another side of him emerges. He allies himself with Eleanor Guthrie, daughter of the local kingpin, to ensure their survival. Many opponents stand in their way: rival captains; Eleanor's father; and John Silver, recently recruited onto Flint's crew, who constantly undermines his captain's agenda.

Rated 6/10. Overall, this series is okay, but the potential is there to be so much better. I find it frustrating that too much graphic violence, over-use of the 'F' word, and pointless sex scenes spoil it. All this adds nothing to the plot, and seems to be only there for silly sensationalism and to get ratings. You can still portray grittiness without being in-your-face every few minutes.

Sadly, this is why I discontinued watching "Game of Thrones" after a few episodes, which was ridiculous for all the above.

Starz is an American company, and like HBO, feels that over doing everything is the way to go, instead of being more subtle. If this had been an English production, it would have been better.

I'll probably watch the 2nd season, just to check out how the story goes. I already know that the series was cancelled after the 4th season, so we'll see if I get that far. Hopefully, it won't all disintegrate into a pirate soap opera.

This is actually a very enjoyable and well done show that deserves more attention. Given that it is a brutal and seemingly true to life version of pirates I was unsure how well the series would succeed at having characters you could actually sympathize with but they pull it off. It's more then just pirates glorying in violence. There is lots of combat and nudity but it didn't feel like they were the whole point of the show. There is actually some depth to the characters and story which makes the show really satisfying. It never felt like the series devolved into things taking place just for shock value without reason or consequence. The acting and overall production values of the settings and sea battles are really good as well. It's all a very convincing portrayal. If you want a good action show this is worth giving a chance to.

Wow! What an incredible series! Superior story lines and characterizations! The sets are incredible! Definitely not a show for the kiddies though, as this is certainly not "Pirates: as brought to you by Disney"!
