Martin John’s mam says that she is glad he is done with it. But is Martin John done with it? He says he wants it to stop, his mother wants it to stop, we all want it to stop. But is it really what Martin John wants? He had it in his mind to do it and he did it. Harm was done when he did it. Harm would continue to be done. Who will stop Martin John? Will you stop him? Should she stop him?

From Anakana Schofield, the brilliant author of the bestselling Malarky, comes a darkly comic novel circuiting through the mind, motivations and preoccupations of a character many women have experienced but few have understood quite so well. The result confirms Schofield as one of the bravest and most innovative authors at work in English today.

Anakana Schofield is an Irish-born writer, who won the First Novel Award and the Debut-Litzer Prize for Fiction in 2013 for her debut novel Malarky.

Contrived writing style. After 50 pages I could not tell what was going on so I gave up.

A good book. Quick to read and provides a viewpoint not often experienced.

Original, disturbing and 'aggressive, but you see this hasn't been an easy book for any of us.'
Martin John knows that harm was done, but he's got nothing to say about it.

"It's time to bust out the Lord." Anakana Schofield's bracing, hypnotic book is called Martin John, but indelible Mary is my new favourite literary heroine

It was so easy to read, comprehend.

This is not your typical novel. Be prepared for a trip through the mind of a disturbed individual. A masterpiece. Most people would not find it insightful to see the world from the perspective of a molester, but this book has its place among the others who brilliantly succeed in showing the world to us from a very different perspective. Schofield is perfecting her art and we even meet Our Woman from Malarkey briefly on a hospital ward. I wonder if Spain will be the next character in her next novel!
