If I could, I would give this re-make a huge fat 0! What a time-waster! The CGI ghost fx were cool but not as amazing as the original ...what couldn't pop up coffins towards the end of the movie like in the original? Oh I guess that would be too scary for kids today. Please ...they've seen more horror in real and fantasy than ever. And how can their neighbors be SO oblivious to what was happening towards the end? Plus, I didn't get the ending either. Do they spend the rest of their lives buying but not buying homes because the little girl with the stuffed pig told them not to get it? Is she still talking to the spirits inside it? We may never know. Though, there were plenty of references to the first two original Poltergeist movies, I'm sticking with the original. At least, that one gave me nightmares for days (due to that clown scene). This one was completely laughable scary. Avoid this rental. You've been warned.

Bad. Just bad. Even the fx are lame, with, what 33 year's difference in time? Watch the real one, instead. Plus, with the old one, you have the "cursed" stories, due to the real deaths of Heather O'Rourke (the stunning little girl), the African American ghost hunter (kidney/liver failure?), the Indian, and the real life murder of Dominique Dunne (the teenager)...

This movie was ok. I didn't find it to be scary. It was a bit slow. Some similarities to the older version. Overall, I was not impressed.

The director of this new version of Poltergeist already had the bar set very high with the 1982 version of Poltergeist. And the new version didn't even come close. For me the whole family except the little girl didn't have much of that horrified factor--unconvincing. Should have done some recasting.

I suppose if you never saw the original then this might get a better rating from some. I was most disappointed with Sam Rockwell's " la di da" performance of things. Not very well directed in my opinion.

If you just watch the movie and don't compare it to the original, you'll find that it is very entertaining; I did. The only part that wasn't as good as it could have been, was when the mother saw the daughter's hand pressed against the inside of the TV, she seemed way to calm ( the kids saw all the paranormal stuff not the adults), so she should have been freaking out, in my opinion. But besides that, it was pretty good. I jumped a few times.

The original was way better!! They even changed the little girl's name?! Um ya!

Absolutely terrible remake. Get the original. This one was painful to watch.

Watch the original 1982 version instead! This version is a waste of time!

Worst. Remake. Ever. I got so disinterested I started doing chores around my abode. It's a total waste of an hour and a half of your life which you'll never get back.
See movie "Babadook" instead.
