Accustomed to organizing her own affairs and those of her teenage brother, lovely Patience Debbington finds her life turned upside down by the dashing Vane Cynster, an arrogant rake with an antipathy toward matrimony.
This is an entertaining story, but not as good as "Devil's Bride". I hated all of the hangers-on at Bellamy Hall. There was some intrigue which necessitated the numerous residents at the Hall.
It is the second Cynster novel and a charming romance between Patience and Vane. When Patience misjudged Vane, she screws up her courage to apologize. It is character moments like that that make you want hang out with her characters. So many other stories skip the apologies.
