Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”
Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!
In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

Fun book! I’ve never watched the Office but I’m glad I read this first! I’ve also never watched the Mindy project. But still! Funny, endearing, relatable! Whether you know mindy Kaling or not, I’d recommend this book!

I LOVED this! I love Mindy, I love her show and I've watched her speech at Harvard's 2014 graduation ceremony so many times... so I'm really not surprised to love her book. I listened to the audiobook... I highly recommend it. It's narrated by Mindy herself so her energy really comes through.

I really liked the first book by the famous actress and comedian, Mindy Kaling. The entire book explained her life, and every interesting and hilarious moment. The book was mostly based off of her career and how it started. After reading "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?", it made me realize how much effort Mindy put into her career, to get where she is today. Without her skits, and constant hours of hanging with friends to create sketches, she wouldn't have had the motivation to go and get a job writing for The Office, and so much more. I watch The Mindy Project, and reading this book made me love her even more. She has another book that was recently released, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it! I think it's cool to know more about where our favourite actors and actresses used to be at certain low points of their lives. It's even cooler when you didn't expect what you were about to read, at all! I would rate this book 4/5.

Kaling's honesty and fun personality make this book a hilarious and endearing read.

This was an interesting book filled with interesting observations. In many places her stories were humorous, in others they attempted to bring hope. I love how honest she is about herself, her career, and her goals. Very interesting perspective and easy to relate to.

Loved this book. I'm a big fan of The Office and also the Mindy Project. It was interesting to read her book pre-Mindy Project knowing that she does eventually get to write her own show and play a character based more on her on personality. I didn't even need the audiobook, Mindy's voice was in my head reading this too me. Made me laugh and was very relatable to my own life. Looking forward to reading her next book "Why Not Me?"

Seriously funny! I want Mindy to be my best friend! It's so wonderful to read about someone who thinks a lot like I do and has so many similar interests - her rules for karaoke etiquette were so spot on! It's great to see that while she's a part of Hollywood, she has not let it go to her head, she's just the same quirky girl she's always been. I also love that she went to college and graduated, before going on her path to "famous."

How refreshing to hear an insecure voice. Through her humor and honesty, Mindy is highly relatable and incredibly likable. As a woman, I want her to be my best friend. I want to gossip and share my fears with her, because I know she shares them. Celebrities work so hard at creating the perfect persona, that it's satisfying to see the reality - the dresses that don't fit, the awkward dating, and career battles. In addition, Mindy draws back the curtain on her time writing for The Office. Even if you're not familiar with Kaling, or The Office, I suggest this read for the female positive inspiration Mindy offers!

I have a confession. I don't watch TV - no I did not even watch Office. So,why did I read this book? It seemed like it might be funny. Yes, it was. Mindy Kaling is clever. She is funny in a clever sort of way and that tickled my funny bone.

Mindy is like the 'girl next door,' the girl who obeyed her parents, did well in school, went to college, and yet succeeded on TV. That is probably every average girl's dream. Her description of not being a size zero is a relief to every size 10 woman.

In short every page was something I could relate to and that's why I enjoyed the book so much; and yes, I'm going to read her next book too.

I'm getting made fun of because I used to be fat? The laws of bullying allow you to be cruel even when the victim had made strides for improvement? This is when I realized that bullies have no code of conduct.
