"New Jersey state police officer Doug Brock has been after infamous criminal Nicholas Bennett for years. When Bennett kills someone close to Doug, however, Doug's investigation--and his life--start spiraling out of control. He's placed on indefinite suspension from the police force and breaks things off with his fianceâe but he can't let the case go, and he continues an off-the-books investigation on his own. When Doug's former partner on the force, Nate Alvarez, receives a call from Doug saying he's discovered something big, something terrifying, something they need to call in the FBI to handle, Nate is furious that Doug has still been working the case. But when the call ends abruptly, and shortly afterward Doug is found in a hotel room, shot and in critical condition, Nate's anger turns to fear. When Doug finally awakens from his coma, however, he has no memory of the case, or even the last several years of his life. But the pull of what he might have discovered is too strong, and he finds himself immersed in a desperate search for truth once again, regardless of the danger. Once again Rosenfelt has written a propulsive and compelling thriller that will rivet readers from the first page to the last"--

HE’S IN THE DARK. . .
New Jersey State Police officer Doug Brock has been after criminal Nicholas Bennett for years. When Bennett kills someone close to Doug, however, the whole investigation spirals out of control—as does Doug’s own life. He’s put on indefinite suspension from the force, but Doug still can’t let the case go. . .and he ends up sacrificing everything, including his fiancée, to continue working on it off the books. Soon he discovers something big—important enough to involve the FBI—and calls his former partner on the force for help. . .

WHILE A KILLER IS HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT.
Doug’s phone call ends abruptly with a bang—literally. He’s eventually found in a hotel room, shot and in critical condition. After coming out of his coma, Doug has no memory of the case, or even the last several years of his life. But the pull of what he once discovered is too strong to resist, and he finds himself immersed in a desperate search for truth once again. . .no matter what mortal danger lies in store.

Love David's writing style-sarcasm, humour and witticisms. This was a great stand alone read, although, I am addicted to the Andy Carpenter series.
I couldn't put this book down and finished it in one day.

Interesting scenario. Very much enjoyed the clues.

I found this author about a year ago and love his books. There is no violence or sex just a good mystery. I love the light, subtle humour he uses throughout his books. This standalone book is no exception. I did not see the ending coming.

Entertaining police procedural reminiscent of the author's Andy Carpenter series but slightly more serious. His books are so readable before you know it you're done. Interesting hook with retrograde amnesia & engaging dialogue make this a quick, fast paced read. If you like his other books you'll enjoy this stand alone.
