I am a fan of Jennings witty writing style and the originality of her characters. However, something didn't work in this story. To be fair, it started off exceptionally exciting and engaging...the reader was introduced to character who refused to assimilate herself into 'quaint society'. There was of course, traces of humor that had me chuckling...but then the book simmered down and became like. ..boring. The idea of the heroine's preference to go against society expectations of that time got stale real fast. And then there was the wooden romance. I was flipping back trying to figure out where it actually started. In my opinion its not the best by Jennings but if you wish to pass the time I guess you can give it a try.

"Caught in the Middle" is a delightful Regina Jennings novel. The characters are fun, especially wild buffalo hunter Anne Tillerton and sweet, charming Nick Lovelace. The story includes two great messages to inspire readers that second chances are possible and trust is vital to any relationship (including spiritual ones). This is a fun western story sure to delight readers who enjoy an Annie Oakley protagonist.

"You decide what kind of person you're going to be, and you be that person. If you want to be friendly, you talk to people. If you want to be strong, you keep your distance. if you want to be a good mother, you stop chasing after men like a lovesick polecat and take care of the kit you already have." Pg. 37
