The gritty, riveting, highly anticipated sequel to the national (and international) best seller Ghostman, by the critically acclaimed and award-winning Roger Hobbs

It’s just before dawn on the South China Sea when three experienced pirates open fire on a small smuggling yacht. Their target: a bag of uncut sapphires worth millions. But when one of them stumbles across an enormous treasure that wasn’t on the manifest, everything goes sideways. Within minutes two of them are dead, leaving the third, a coldblooded psychopath, to claim both the sapphires and the mysterious windfall for himself. If he disappears, he won’t just be wealthy. He’ll have the power to change the course of history.

His boss, Angela, isn’t about to let that happen. She calls in a favor from her onetime protégé: a fixer sometimes known as Jack, or more often as simply the Ghostman. Within hours he’s flying halfway around the world to find her in the glimmering neon slums of Macau. Jack has no real name, no address and no fingerprints—but given the right motivation, he can make serious problems vanish. Though the two haven’t talked since they botched a job six years ago, as soon as Jack’s off the plane they’re back together again, facing down a crime boss, a hit man and a conspiracy bigger than anything they’ve ever encountered and more dangerous than they could’ve imagined.

Their partnership—between people with no lasting relationships whatsoever—is at the very heart of a novel that will cement Roger Hobbs’s status as one of our most talented crime writers.

"The gritty, riveting, highly anticipated sequel to the national (and international) best seller Ghostman, by the very young, critically acclaimed, and award-winning Roger Hobbs. It's just before dawn on the South China Sea when three experienced piratesopen fire on a small smuggling yacht. Their target: a bag of uncut sapphires worth millions. But when one of them stumbles across an enormous treasure that wasn't on the manifest, everything goes sideways. Within minutes the other two are dead, leaving this coldblooded psychopath to claim both the sapphires and the mysterious bonus, in hopes of disappearing completely as he'll now be as rich as Croesus for life. His boss, Angela, isn't about to let that happen, so she calls in a favor from her one-time protege, a man with no real name, no address, no fingerprints, a man who can make anything including himself vanish. Sometimes known as Jack, or simply Ghostman. She, in fact, is the only person for whom he'd drop everything and fly halfway around the world. He's been trying to figure out for six years if Angela's even alive, and given what she's up against he's on the plane immediately and by her side in the glimmering neon slums of Macau, dodging local crime lords and a highly trained hit man, up to their necks in a conspiracy bigger than they've ever seen and more dangerous than they've ever imagined. Their partnership between people who have no lasting relationships whatsoever is at the very heart of a novel that will cement Roger Hobbs's status as oneof our most talented crime writers"--
A sequel to the best-selling Ghostman finds Jack agreeing to help his former mentor dodge crime lords and an assassin to track down a psychopath pirate who has stolen a lucrative treasure with ties to a dangerous conspiracy.

Interesting story, easy to read and comprehend. Not beyond the scope of the possible.

I’ve read the beginnings of many books like this; they peter out fast. Not this one. Just keeps going and going. It’s his second, haven’t read the first. High octane only here. Fortunately this guy doesn’t run out of gas, ever….. . >>> Much like James Elroy who never ever runs out of buzz-word dialog; Hobbs can keep a book going w/o ever including many aspects like plot or character. Amazing! Lots of cracker-jack ‘prizes’ included, too (like lock picking et al et al).

This remarkable followup to 2013's GHOSTMAN proves Roger Hobbs is the new master of the literary thriller. Here, the Ghostman's mentor, Angela, is in trouble when a heist off the coast of Macau goes horribly wrong and she calls Jack in to help. A breakneck chase ensues as several different factions try to get their hands on the prize. Hobbs delivers memorable characters and situations that elevate this above other summer beach reads and he's excellent as keeping the pace up without being exhausting; if you like Lee Child or Harlan Coben, you'll love Hobbs.

A much smoother Jack White than I remember from GHOSTMAN -- but nevertheless, a fast-paced and thrilling high-stakes caper that is enjoyable from start to finish.
