It's 1:15 a.m. Connie Bowskill should be asleep. Instead, she's logging on to a property website in search of a particular house: 11 Bentley Grove, Cambridge. She knows it's for sale; she saw the estate agent's board in the front garden less than six hours ago.

Soon Connie is clicking on the "Virtual Tour" button, keen to see the inside of 11 Bentley Grove and put her mind at rest once and for all. She finds herself looking at a scene from a nightmare: in the living room, in the middle of the carpet, there's a woman lying face-down in a huge pool of blood. In shock, Connie wakes her husband, Kit. But when Kit sits down at the computer to take a look, he sees no dead body, only a pristine beige carpet in a perfectly ordinary room ...

Lasting Damage (2011)
(The Other Woman's House)
(The sixth book in the Culver Valley Crime series)
A novel by Sophie Hannah

didoreads Jul 04, 2016

Sophie Hannah basically writes these mysteries with similiar plots. Someone missing/dead and a female protagonist who has a repressed/ confused memory and who is an unreliable narrator. Enjoyed the series till I just got bored because the villain/mystery was easily solved.

Mystery about a woman who spots a murdered woman on real estate website virtual tour. The novel reveals too much at the end thereby extinguishing much of the suspense you get at the end. So so.

@Winslow I found out from the author's website that "Lasting Damage" is the UK title (published 2011), while "The Other Woman's House" is the US title (published 2012). link: http://www.sophiehannah.com/crime-fiction/47-2/

I love Sophie Hannah's books; they are all very suspenseful and very creepy! This one is particularly good and I could not put it down.
