This movie reminds me of standard Canadian independent movie fare, especially by Adam Egoyan. I'm not a massive fan of the genre where you have younger girls getting involved with older men and there are points which are really uncomfortable in this film. The story is strong enough, the jerk main character, ditched by his insecure needy friend, the path of discovery as he tries to make sense of the dad that abandoned him.

What stands out for me in this movie is how unpleasant the main character was. If there was an OSCAR for most unpleasant character he would have a good chance. Beautiful city but that was it for this movie. Give it a pass.

I found this DVD to be mediocre. There is some nudity. It is not good for a younger audience. There is no violence. The story was semi-strong. The pace lagged. The quality of the actors was not strong enough to hide the weak script. The story relies on nudity and sex due to a lack of story or dialogue. Perhaps with a good script, they could have been good actors. It was about the dysfunctional aspects of love relationships and friendships. The young lady was struggling with her self-identity. Her self-image was older than how the world saw her. I felt sorry for the young man who found out something terrible about his grandfather.

The young Danish actress is mesmerizing, somehow. I don't know why, but she's terrific.
Loved this film.

A Danish-American young man visits Denmark and with the help of a young girl searches for his possible ancestors still living in Denmark. The beauty of this film is that as the young man and young girl get to know each other better, we also get to know them better. And the greatest thing is that we actually get to feel that we are on the trip with them.

Hansen shines in this strange and offbeat love story. I've watched it several times but perhaps it makes me sentimental about my travels to Copenhagen.

I was pretty impressed by the scenery of Copenhagen, but that's all.
I was personally sick of the story of the film, especially with the girl's seductive, provocative adult-like behavior.
There is kind of deep sentiment like a broken family trauma with sorrow and bitterness, but the 14-year-old girl with 28-year-old man's weird hanky panky was hard to swallow for me although the man at least tried to abstain from sexual involvement with her.
It's distasteful and very unpleasant to unravel the story with a minor for sexuality, to begin with, in my just personal opinion.

a rude, self-centered man/boy meets a young girl half his age who has been shaped by living with a single mother and her boyfriends. she finds herself attracted to this bad boy and offers to help him navigate her country and language as he searches for his grandfather.

I'm not a fan of man/boy movies but stuck with this one because it got a lot of good reviews. Hansen is very good in her role as the young girl.

Raso shows he's Canadian with the running gag of William pretending to be from Canada instead of New York, assuming that will make him more acceptable to Europeans.
