Book News
The proposed Enbridge pipelines (there are two of them) would transport oil extracted from tar sands in Alberta, Canada, to Northern British Columbia's Pacific Coast for shipping to Asia. Though public response has been overwhelmingly negative (96% of 9,500 submissions to public hearings under a Joint Review Panel), the Canadian government is pushing for creation of the pipelines. Editors Bowles and Veltmeyer conducted interviews with 19 affected citizens during a week-long research trip from Prince George to Prince Rupert. Twelve of those interviews are contained in this book. The interviewees include several First Nations people, activists both longstanding and recently converted, and two individuals with long histories in commercial fisheries.
