yes, the scenery is very beautiful, and it was educational for me to listen to people speaking Inuktitut - these are the only good things about this movie.
The storyline of the movie is cheesy, characters are not believable. If you want to learn how people of the North used to live in olden days, watch Nanook of the North. It is an old black and white documentary.
Apparently, the authors of Maina did not bother watching it, otherwise they wouldn't make so many stupid mistakes.
It is very strange why this movie is rated G. It should be at least PG, considering scenes of violence ( people attacking people with spears, blood splattering all around, sexually suggestive language, people having sex (under covers, but it is very clear what exactly they are doing). And I was very close showing it to my young children.
Watch this movie if you enjoy Hollywood style pseudo-historic trash.

It's a deeply touching story of many layers. Encounters, disencounters, longing, learning and growing.
Wonderfully acted and majestically filmed! Incredible interior and exterior landscapes.
I highly recommend this film.

This is not a Hollywood type of movie. Read the description about the story of this DVD first. If you are interested in this particular story, this DVD was well produced. Otherwise, you may find this movie boring. This movie is like a novel. You need to sit down and watch for all the details - love, family, culture, barbarian, human-dog relation, ...Things happened to two different groups of people: those who live in a jungle and those who live on ice.

Incredibly refreshing to see a film about North American Natives that is not centered on white people. Also fascinating to see how contact between Innu and Inuit could have played out and how human relationships, politics and cultural misunderstandings haven't changed. Gorgeous cinematography to boot. Highly recommended.

Very delightful! The scenery is spectacular. Done in 90% English subtitle was a really nice story about to different tribes (Inu and Inuit) working together against a variety of barriers

Loved this movie... easy to understand why it received six Canadian Screen Awards including Best Picture. Highly recommended!
