How did Adolf Hitler and his small band of criminal conspirators persuade the German people to follow them into a nightmare of brutality, genocide, and military defeat? The documentary chronicles how Hitler rose to power by exploiting the economic turmoil of the time. Through archival film footage, interviews, and dramatic reconstructions, it's the true story of the rise and fall of the Nazis, from Hitler's recovery in a hospital at the end of WWI to his dramatic final days in a Berlin bunker.

This is a good series for those wanting an overview of the rise of Hitler and for secondary level or college history classes. The narrative cuts back and forth between historical footage and a Discovery or History Channel type reconstruction. The actors playing the Nazi party members and Hitler himself are amateurish and wooden. The limited historical footage which is by far the most interesting part of the series, is repetitively cut and re-cut of necessity to show the German society's adulation of Hitler and the political and economic conditions which gave rise to Nazism. Some of the footage of Berlin relies on current stock film which gives an odd disjunction to the narrative. I think that this series would have been improved by eliminating the reconstructions and concentrating on the historical footage and interviews unless its intended audience is those completely unfamiliar with Nazism.
