Unintentionally hilarious 1950's SyFy/Horror.

Not bad, I came for Steve Mcqueen and stayed for the frozen jello. I was thinking the same thing as Jelinekl... Will the arctic stay frozen for ever Lt. Dave? We shall see....

PS Isn't it amazing how well dressed and polite people were back in the day?

"Beware of the Blob!"

The Blob is a low-budget Sci-Fi/Horror film from 1958 that is so bad that it's actually quite hilariously entertaining. The monster scenes are absolutely priceless to watch. And Steve McQueen's wooden performance (as the hero) is the ultimate nadir of bad acting.

I've watched this several times over the years. Most of it was filmed in Downingtown, PA, about 30 minutes from where I grew up and where my brother now lives. The theater & grocery store scenes were filmed in Phoenixville, at the Colonial Theater on Bridge St and the former state liquor store down the street. I have fond memories of that theater. And after the liquor store moved out of that location in the early '80s, I attended a church that took its place. I'm not sure what's in that spot now.

55 years ago they froze the blob in the Arctic.....as long as it stays frozen. Now with global warming, the blob shall return.

Opening with a spicy, saxophone-dominated, jazz/pop title song (penned by Burt Bacharach) containing lyrics that go like this - "Beware of the blob. It creeps and leaps and glides and slides across the floor..." - You can surely bet that this super-schlocky, 1950s, teen, Sci-Fi/Horror flick is guaranteed to deliver (in all of its dead-seriousness) a literal score of priceless, unintentional laughs from start to finish.

And laughs it certainly does produce - Even before the big-bad blob, in all of its gelatinous, cherry-colored glory, makes its first gooey screen-appearance.

From its hilarious dialogue, to its wooden performances, to its goofy, low-budget special effects - The Blob is certain to please any hardcore fan of 1950's, b-movie junk. You can bet on that.

Of course it's in the Criterion Collection. Even B movies can be great classics =D

This is a good example of what an alien life form might really be like. One of the only films that takes place entirely at night. Also seems to be (mostly) in real time. "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" (1988) uses the same basic plot, only with a different (& very far-fetched) kind of alien.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: it is scary but it does not show anything that will give kids 8 years old or older nightmares unlike the 1988 remake of the film

Violence: it is pretty violent when the blob attacks someone but shows nothing

Frightening or Intense Scenes: When the blob attacks at the movie theater it gets pretty intense, in a fun sort of way.
