"A love story for Christmas from the #1 bestselling author of The Christmas Box and The Walk. Elise Dutton dreads the arrival of another holiday season. Three years earlier, her husband cheated on her with her best friend, resulting in a bitter divorce that left her alone, broken, and distrustful. Then, one November day, a stranger approaches Elise in the mall food court. Though she recognizes the man from her building, Elise has never formally met him. Tired of spending the holidays alone, the man offers her a proposition. For the next eight weeks--until the evening of December 24--he suggests that they pretend to be a couple. He draws up a contract with four rules: 1. No deep, probing personal questions 2. No drama 3. No telling anyone the truth about the relationship 4. The contract is void on Christmas Day. The lonely Elise surprises herself by agreeing to the idea. As the charade progresses, the safety of her fake relationship begins to mend her badly broken heart. But just as she begins to find joy again, her long-held secret threatens to unravel the emerging relationship. But she might not be the only one with secrets"--

A delightful short book. I particularly liked the quote or caption from Elise's diary at the start of each short chapter; kind of premonition or fore shadowing with a light twist. While the characters both suffer deep scars from their past, the focus of the book is kept light and easy on the romance with enough Christmas spirit to keep you enthralled to the end. I couldn't put it down!

Very entertaining and thoughtful! I loved the idea Elise, who feels worthless and unlovable, being treated as the lovable and beautiful woman that she forgot that she was, by one of the nicest (and believable) guys. Plus just enough Christmas to feel Christmas-y without being overbearing.

I enjoyed it. Very quirky but yet a fast entertaining read. Kept me interested and the ending was very clever. One thing though the author did in my opinion make a mistake in that the two xmas parties, I found it rather difficult that the 2nd party the hostess would not have met her at the first party...so that kind of bugged me but all in all I enjoyed this book

This was my first Evans book and I loved it. It was an easy and fast read, and I loved the way the book is written in short chapters. I could have gotten through it in just a few sittings but I stretched it out. Lovely story, relevant Bible references (although subtle), and a story of love and forgiveness. OH YES - please do yourself a favour and do NOT watch the TV movie. It was definitely not the same as the book, was confusing, and boring. The book is MUCH better. :)

Such a great story...written in a style similar to Nicholas Sparks. Very entertaining and surprising! The first in a series is always the best!

On the surface, this book sounds like it is going to be a typical Christmas romance. Little do you expect the dark and troubling revelations and the scars the characters carry. This was a romantic and heartwarming read that explores the meaning of forgiveness. At times troubling, and at others heartwarming, this is an interesting Christmas read.

What is Christmas without a "Richard Paul Evans Christmas Story?" 2014's Christmas Love Story did not disappoint. Nicholas and Elise sign a contract to be together till Christmas eve and the story progresses predictably yet beautifully.
I knew that Elise and Nicholas had some deep pain in common and sure enough they did. However, reading what Evans wrote was wonderful. For example when Elise wraps Nicholas's gift of a scarf around her neck, she says, "it had been a long time since I felt that warm." Yes, Evans has a knack for sentences that are both literally and figuratively true.
A beautiful story.

Nicholas Derr, a successful lawyer, approaches Elise Dutton in the cafeteria where they both work. He proposes a contract for the Christmas season where they pretend to be in a relationship, attend functions together, and keep each other from being lonely. Can they keep this contract on a platonic relationship or will it develop into something more? This is the sweetest romance I've read in a long time. I loved it enough to purchase it for my niece. If you can read this without being moved, you have no feelings.
