This film kept my interest with outstanding performances by all players. James Floyd was especially charismatic. Your ear may need to acclimatize itself to the Hackney version of Gangsta talk. Not as bloody or as aggressive as we have come to expect from Hollywood, this UK offering loses none of the impact while telling the story of a young man trapped by circumstance.

Amazingly good for the director's debut film. “My Brother the Devil” – I suspect that the financiers of this film forced the last two words onto the director to help sell the film. For sure, IMHO, “My Brother” would have been a better title. The film tells the story of two ethnic Egyptian brothers growing up in a very gritty section of a UK city. Lots of drugs, some sex, gang violence, and some guns cause growing up to be difficult. Lots of different ethnic groups in this neighborhood. Not everyone will make it out alive. Sorta like 21st century Englewood neighborhood in Chicago. I knocked off a half star because I coulda used subtitles to understand some of the slang and ethnic accents of the UK neighborhood.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance. Very predictable but still entertaining. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way
