Reporter Moira Harrison is new on the job in St. Louis, but she's no rookie to investigative reporting. One stormy night, Moira spots a pedestrian too late. She jams on her brakes and careens across the pavement into a tree. A dazed Moira is relieved when a man opens her door, tells her he saw everything, and promises to call 911. Then everything fades to black.
When Moira comes to, she is alone. No man. No 911. No injured person lying on the side of the road. She can't forget the look of terror she saw on the person's face in the instant before her headlights swung away, but no one will believe her story -- except a former police detective who is now a private eye.
Cal is skeptical at first, but as clues begin to surface, the danger mounts. Someone is willing to stop at nothing to protect a secret that would destroy a life built on lies.

A tenacious reporter. A skeptical PI. And a secret that will shatter lives.
Reporter Moira Harrison is lost. In the dark. In a thunderstorm. When a lone figure suddenly appears in the beam of her headlights, Moira slams on her brakes-but it’s too late. She feels the solid thump against the side of her car before crashing into a tree on the far side of the road.
A man opens her door, tells her he saw everything, and promises to call 911. Then the world fades to black. When she comes to, she is alone. No man. No 911. No injured person. But she can’t forget the look of terror she saw on that face in the instant before her headlights swung away. And she can’t get anyone to believe her story-except maybe a handsome ex–homicide detective turned private eye, who reluctantly agrees to take on the case.
As clues begin to surface, it becomes obvious that someone doesn’t want this mystery solved-and will stop at nothing to protect a shocking secret.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was excited to receive it and once I started reading it was hard to put down to go back to real life. Her books are a true escape. They are written expertly with a plot that draws you in and words chosen well so you can see the action. You feel you are right there in the middle of everything.
I've read her Heroes of Quantico series as well as the Guardian's of Justice series and I loved them. This one certainly measures up to the others. The stories in the earlier series' revolved around those in law enforcement and this time she moves over to Private Investigators. They are all ex law enforcement of some kind and are not stereotypes often seen on TV. They are professionals who do are good at what they do.
This author has a formula she follows loosely for her stories, but they are all so different otherwise it doesn't stand out like it might with a lesser writer. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good suspense story.
