This "in Death" book, I didn't finish because it was too brutal. First the main charcter kills off his parents, then he threatens to attack a helpless dog with pliers! I got as far as chapter 11 and stopped reading. I thought this mystery would be exciting but it wasn't.

Just too formulaic, maybe this group should fold up their tent and say goodbye.

Is anyone but me put off by the books being set "in the future" I know the old ones aren't,,, but it sort of confuses me when something is said that reminds me that now they are "in the future" can't remember which year...

I was a little disappointed in this one too.

Standard Eve Dallas fare. Nothing outstanding about this latest case.

I agree with Mic2511; it's like someone else was hired to write this book. It lumbered on and there was little to sustain interest.

Gruesome senseless murders just before Thanksgiving holiday ... a case that frustrates Lt. Eve Dallas ... plus family reunion, public recognition, possible captaincy, survivors from her previous cases, all drove Eve into uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory. A great read, as usual!

I eagerly await each new book in the "in death" series but this one was a total disappointment. I wonder if JD Robb is now using a ghost writer... the plot was boring and the by-play between characters was almost nonexistent. All the old characters were in the book but there was no reason for them to be there. I really don't believe JD Robb wrote this book. If she is going to use a ghost writer, I hope she gets better one next time.

I have read all the "in Death" books by JD Robb. In fact I am in the process of reading them all again.
And I read them for the interactions, and relationships between the characters as well.
This is the first book in the series that I did not like. In fact I didn't even finish reading it.
It seemed like she was just going through the motions while writing it. I had to wonder if she hasn't gotten burnt out, at least with this series.
You knew who the villain was from the beginning. And there was almost no backstory, or interplay between the characters. The book consisted of a description of each consecutive torture and murder in detail, and that was about it.
I have always eagerly awaited her next book, but after this offering, I am not sure if it isn't time for her to wrap up the "in Death" series.
Anybody could have written this book. It just wasn't very good.

Somewhere along the line I’ve stopped reading these books for the “Eve catches the bad guy” aspect. I keep coming back because of the little byplay between the characters. This time around I couldn’t care less about Jerry Reinhold. I was just hoping Robb would include a scene describing Eve’s honor (which I’m not going to get into for fear of spoilers) and Thanksgiving with Roarke’s family.
