The woman on the bed was barely out of her teens. She wasn’t exactly beautiful, but she’d tried to make the most of her looks. And now, alone in a seedy beachfront motel, she was dead.

Paradise Police Chief Jesse Stone doesn’t know her name. Whoever she is, she didn’t deserve to die. Jesse starts digging, only to find himself caught in the crosshairs of a bitter turf war between two ruthless pimps. And more blood will spill before it’s over.

I miss Robert b. Parker's. & His writing.
I'm glad to see his great characters
live on. Spenser.jesse Stone, Virgil Cole And Sunny Randall. All his supporing characters ( to many to name) Made for hours of enjoyable
fun reading.

Brandman attempts to mimic Parker's inimitable style but comes far short. The dialog is trite, the plot shallow, and Jesse loses a lot of his character in the translation. Ace Atkins does a much more effective Parker imitation in his Spenser knockoffs. If this is your first exposure to "Parker," go back and read some of the master's marvelous stories for a real treat.

Brandman follows in the footsteps of Robert Parker and has big shoes to fill. Damned If You Do fell a little short compared to previous works but it was a quick afternoon read with lots of short chapters. Always a pleasure to spend time with Jesse Stone, Suitcase, and Molly.
