Out of all the "I'm secretly a princess" picture books I’ve read, this one struck me because one of this gal’s primary responsibilities is firefighting. She has a Royal Air Balloon and a red fire hat and a hose and everything. Of course she does all kinds of more classic princessy things too, like learning fencing and circus arts, and riding in her motorcycle which has a sidecar for her dog. Wait, those aren’t traditional princess activities…? Anyway. It’s a delightful little mashup. The art is sweet, and so is the relationship between the girl and her mama. And you can tell they know their target audience, because there's glitter on the cover. (Oh wait, is their target audience not my elementary school age son? My mistake!)

My 2 year old loved this book, because she loves fire engines and princess dresses too :) Great book!

A proactive princess with a job to get done. Very cute, and a good lesson for little girls, for even princesses have to work.

This is one princess book I actually like! During the day the girl is a regular little girl who goes to school and has a brother who breaks her crayons, and at night she becomes a princess who puts out fires and cheers up dragons, all while wearing a cute princesy dress. She leads a double life: there is a tea party to be had and a ball with a prince, of course, but at the same she is a strong, fierce princess character, not a damsel in distress and her mom, the Queen, is also along for the ride. It's very sensible to bring your mom along to partake in your double life adventures!
