So I literally just finished this book and it's not that bad.
I will say S.D. Perry isn't the greatest writer but when she has something to work off of (especially with games) she's pretty good but when she doesn't have something, it's ok.
So I haven't played RE1 but I know the story but not enough of the actual game play to fully compare these two to each other so I won't but I do know the characters pretty darn well and I have some problems. I would say that Chris, Jill, etc. are the same character or close to but Wesker is a whole other story. Wesker in this book isn't an Umbrella scientist and all that jazz that my dear, darling Wesker is. And he is made to be kind of an idiot, not dumb but not Wesker smart. How he "dies" is inaccurate and some of the things that he does contradicts the other book of Perry's. What I mean by that is in this book Wesker is with the Alphas at their headquarters when Bravo team's helicopter goes down but in Zero Hour Wesker is with Birkin in the underground Umbrella facility by the Spencer estate so big contradiction there.
Other then those, this book is really good, not bad but not great.
I think anyone who wants to start in the RE series should read this if they can't get the game.
