As five friends pile into an RV bound for a secluded cabin far from civilization, the operators of a mysterious, high-tech control room monitor their every move while preparing an arcane ritual that dates back to the beginning of time. Shortly after arriving at the rickety cottage, Dana (Kristen Connolly) and her friends Curt (Chris Hemsworth), Jules (Anna Hutchison), Marty (Fran Kranz), and Holden (Jesse Williams) venture into the basement and discover a little girl's diary from the early 1900s -- which recounts a series of horrifying events that unfolded precisely where the vacationing teens how stand. Before long, the nightmare comes knocking at the door -- murder gleaming from its putrid eyes and a rusty saw clenched in rotting hands. In the control room, everything is going exactly according to plan; Sitterson (Richard Jenkins) and Hadley (Bradley Whitford) are taking bets, and their supervisor Lin (Amy Acker) is monitoring every detail. But just when it looks like the show is over, an unexpected glitch threatens to topple the entire system.

Classic horror movie feel but with plenty of twist, you’ll never guess who the real monsters are.

Interesting horror movie. Don't know how to feel about the direction they took.

Not as much scary as funny bloody thriller, but its very creative. Sadly the more you know the less it will surprise you so I suggest just taking the dive and watching it.

Like Scream before it, this movie satirizes horror, breaking down it's conventions, and calling them out. Unlike many previous horror comedies, Cabin in the Woods develops an interesting story reason for the satire. Viewers are treated to a taste of monsters and gore, then the narrative veers off into a weirdly philosophical space, then to all-out mayhem. The twists keep on coming until you don't know which way is up. And the ending is one that no horror fan could predict. Highly enjoyable!

Both funny and genuinely scary; truly entertaining.

Sadism and misogyny overly taint what could have been a much better horror film: what if Evil Scientists set up a control grid that set people's "reality" in a survivor game show format? The ending is nonsensical and the monster gallery veers into the comic. That said, the first part of the film is an interesting concept.

Wow. That was possible the most original movie I have ever seen. This movie spoofs on every modern day horror movie cliche while paying homage to every single horror movie every made. The first act of this film goes like classic horror; 5 college kids party in a cabin. Second act; shit goes down, all slasher style. But the third act....The third act is unlike we have ever seen before. It went from horror movie trope to a original horror tour de force. Although it has many flaws, The Cabin in the Woods is an astonishing meta-feat, capable of being funny, strange, brilliant and scary -- frequently all at the same time.

This is why this film is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGz2xdQa1ho

This one of Joss Whedon's best work to date. If you like horror films and are disappointed by today's shitty horror movies, then watch this film.

This movie is one of the finest examples of satire I have ever seen. It took all of the typical conventions of the slasher film: the slut, the virgin, the stoner, the jock, and the nerd going to the aforementioned cabin in the woods, and turns them on their head. Along the way, it also makes biting statements about the human condition. Fans of slasher films will enjoy this film, as it does contain all of the tropes of slasher films, but I think it will also surprise slasher fans in what it does with them. There are many scenes of graphic gore and violence that are played for laughs in a surprising way. All in all, this movie is one of my all-time favorite horror films.

[Curt sees that Jules is holding textbooks about Soviet economics and the Cold War]

Curt: What is this? What are these? What are you doing with these?

Dana: Okay. I get it. I'll leave the books.

Curt: [angrily to Jules] No, no, no. Who gave you these? Who taught you about these?

Jules: I learned it from you! Okay? I learned it from watching you!

[She runs out of the room in tears. Curt laughs]
