The enchanting Snow White (Kristen Stewart) joins forces with the fierce Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), who was recruited by the diabolical Queen (Charlize Theron) to kill the fair beauty, and together they fight to rid their kingdom of evil in this bold new take on the fairy-tale classic from commercial director Rupert Sanders. Obsessed with being the fairest woman in the land, the Queen learns that Snow White will soon surpass her in beauty, and seeks to achieve immortality by consuming the young girl's heart. But the Huntsman is the only one capable of braving the dark forest to seek out Snow White. Threatened with death should he refuse to follow his order, the Huntsman finds Snow White, and begins training her for the arduous battle ahead. Meanwhile, a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) falls hopelessly under Snow White's spell.

Snow White revised for the 21st century: keeping the Evil Queen stepmother but giving Snow White a posse to take her on. Excellent special effects (the fairyland scene is truly enchanting, the spirit-drinking scenes truly scary, the sweeping fight up the Irish beach truly inspiring, the poisoned apple truly nightmarish, etc.) and a quick-moving storyline, with grumpy dwarves who happen to like good music and dancing. Charlize Theron is awesome in her icy pathology (with a backstory to explain her sad childhood and a creepy effect on her relationship with her brother); Kristin Stewart is far less wooden than usual; and Chris Hemsworth is the possible Prince Charming. All this and a happy ending, too. However, because of the violence, not recommended for children under 12.

I liked this DVD. It is very scary even for adults. It is a little sexual. I do not recommend it for children. This story is very different than Disney' s version. There is a lot of graphic violence. In the end the good guys win even though they are outnumbered. It has a moral story showing it is better to have a kind innocent heart than a wicked malicious heart. There is lots of fight scenes. The story moves along quickly.

I couldn't finish it - had more worthwhile things to do with my time; completed all except the final 15 minutes or so of the film.

The acting is not terrible. The writing is generally atrocious - utterly formulaic plot and progression. The best component of the movie is the set of dwarves and their heroic exploits; sadly, they only arrive after the movie is more than halfway complete, and don't get much screen-time after that. Some of the most entertaining scenes are the five minutes of Snow White arriving at the realm in which the dwarves live - there is a very fantastical and wonderful, youthful, faerie-tale spirit contained within these scenes. If the character of these scenes could have somehow infused the entire movie, it could well have been a gorgeous, entertaining, faerie-tale epic.

As it is, the vast majority of the movie is simple, mindless, Hollywood drivel. This did not need to be produced.

This movie was sufficiently good to deserve a sequal. The problem is, how do you build on Happily Ever After?

It’s fun to be the evil queen when you are as hot as Charlize Theron!!!!!!
