Summer 1869, and Sherlock Holmes and his friend Irene celebrate her sixteenth birthday by attending the theater to watch a celebrated magician make a real dragon appear on stage. It is the London sensation. Sherlock and Irene meet the magician, Alistair Hemsworth – just as he is arrested for the murder of his rival, The Wizard of Nottingham.

It seems that traces of the missing Wizard’s blood and his spectacles were found in Hemsworth’s secret studio. Hemsworth has a motive: not only is the Wizard his rival, but he also caused a scandal when he lured Hemsworth’s wife away. But is Hemsworth guilty? Sherlock has his doubts, and soon, so does the reader.

With humor and plot turns as dizzying as a narrow London lane, Shane Peacock invites his readers into a fascinating world, and a fresh adventure with one of literature’s favorite characters. The Boy Sherlock Holmes series is an international success with readers and reviewers alike.

This book was really interesting and I liked Shane Peacock's other books so I thought I would try this one!

The overall plot was pretty good, but this book wasn't as good as the other ones in the series.

The book The Dragon Turn is written by Canadian author Shane Peacock who was born in Thunder Bay grew up in Kapuskasing and lives with his family near Cobourg, Ontario. This book takes place in 1869 and starts off with 16 year old Sherlock attending a magic show with Irene Doyle. This magic show is preformed by a fumbling magician named Alistair Hemsworth who dazzles everybody in the audience by making a dragon appear in a cage with a woman who is his assistant. When the performance is over and the dragon is gone Irene takes Sherlock backstage to see Hemsworth after the show when they see Hemsworth he asks Irene if she wants to sing for him as the opening act but as they’re talking Inspector Lestrade and his son Lestrade junior come from Scotland Yard to arrest Hemsworth for killing the wizard Nottingham because a pool of blood, spectacles and a few chunks of flesh were found in what people claim to be his secret workshop. Now this is the fifth book in The Boy Sherlock Holmes series some people say it’s a good start off to the series but I would disagree because you would have no idea who a lot of the characters are so if I were you I would start from the beginning of the series so you can learn who all the characters are. This is quite a good book but as far as I can tell most people expected it to be like the classics but it’s not really like the classics but I would recommend this book for grades 3 to 6 and not for the die hard Sherlock Holmes fans.

I love mysteries, especially Sherlock Holmes. I thought the mystery was solid and the characters were likable but there was one flaw; it was too predictable. I solved the mystery long before the end, which makes a book lose it's appeal. I also found that it could be confusing at times. I know this was the fifth in the series but they could have made it more clear. Overall it was a good book.

I found this book quite interesting because of young Sherlock's intuitive abilities. I didn't like the fact that the end of the book conculded in that fashion since everything was at Mrs Nottingham's expense. I just wish that there was a happy ending.

Althought I love this series by Canadian author Shane Peacock, this was probably my least favourite one. I had trouble getting into the story and it seemed like it all moved too quickly and there wasn't enough detail. Really not very much detail about any of the characters, at least none that drew me in. Story is about the mysterious disappearance of a magician's former partner and former wife. When they both go missing, a mysterious creature is suspected.

I thought that "The Dragon Turn" was a good book and I really like Scuttle. I really liked the ending and the mysterious part of the book. I was a little confused on why the fifth book of a series was chosen especially because other books/cases were referenced.
