An amazing story, just recently heard about it and have now read. Darryl Hammond was a SNL actor who was on the show for a record breaking seventeen years. What was going on behind the scenes of his life is truly amazing. Not often do we get men's stories dealing with their trauma history. My Shadow Ran Fast by Bill Sands, A Hold in the World by Richard Rhodes and God, If You're Not up There, I"m F*cked. Very few. This book by Mr. Hammond should be in every practitioner's library. The parade of psychiatrists who treated him were without a clue prescribing countless medications. And this should give everyone pause that psychiatry is a willy nilly profession with only a few good practitioners. Thank you for sharing your story! You were terrific on SNL but your book is an unforgettable legacy of recovery.

Darrell Hammond was always one of my favourite SNL cast members. He can do so many impressions. I don't care too much for politics so I liked it when he did stuff like portraying Sean Connery on Celebrity Jeopardy. When you see him on TV, he makes comedy look easy and natural.

Now that I read what was happening to him behind the scenes, I am amazed that he could function at all on stage. (Stuff like cutting himself and having panic attacks.) Sounds like his mother was extremely mentally disturbed and terrorized him constantly and he is still traumatized. Even though he seems to be able to find medical help, he still has flashbacks and breakdowns, even as recently as within the last couple of years.
