I think Steve White must be bored out of his mind with writing Science Fiction. This is the laziest writing I have seen in a long time. Each step of the way is based on everyone, good or bad, immediately telling the hero everything he wants to know. He goes to find a reclusive, secretive, alien--that alien sees him without delay and then knowing almost nothing about him, let's him in on his most secret plans, and takes him along to his super secret headquarters where even more is blabbed. And so on. And not just the hero but the heroine who is a nonentity but provides a female interest.
