In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca, Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem.

The book is WAY better. This movie was violent, Marcus had no morals (unlike the book), and they twisted the storyline a lot, cutting out and adding bits. I was pretty disappointed.

Not a bad movie. Liked various aspects of the film, including the historical tidbits. However, portions of what Tatum did were cringe-worthy. Would not see it again.

This is an 'OK' war epic set in Roman-occupied Britain. British director Kevin Macdonald has done much better work and 'Eagle' is probably one of his less successful productions. Still worth a watch for the scenery and action.

Compared to the book this movie was horrible! Absolutely nothing like the book!
But if you're just looking for an action packed Roman movie you'd like this. But if you're like me and loved the book, I'd advise you to steer clear of the movie. It's not worth the disgust I went through.

The initial fight scenes, using proper roman fighting tactics was excellent. The rest of the movie was terrible. The characters weren't compelling or well drawn, the plot was simplistic, and the historical aspect was weak. Watch the first half hour and return.

Violence: Beheading, severed head lying on ground, slitting throats, murder of a small boy, creepy savages, reopening of bad wound, typical sword-fighting with stabbing people.
