Great book for kids and tweens dealing with anxiety in all forms.

My son (aged 9) has suffered terrible anxiety from 6 months after the Feb 11 earthquake. We tried down playing his fears, being firm but kind, a number of approaches but none seemed to have a lasting effect. Just when we thought we had it 'under control' his anxiety would pop up again in a different way. He went through stages of having a terrible fear of horses and dogs, to separation anxiety (where I couldn't leave the house to go to the letterbox without him yelling out for me), thinking he was dying of a disease, fearing new experiences or even driving to new places. I took out this book and it was a life saver for us. It was written in language that a 9 year old can understand. We read the book together, doing every exercise they recommended. Bit by bit his anxiety reduced, to the point where he has just returned from his first school camp, away for 2 nights. Yes, there were tears one the first night (not uncommon), but he is incredibly proud of himself. Coming from having panic attacks 18 months ago to being able to walk up to school on his own, and go away for 2 nights is just massive. I would strongly recommend this book. The information you get in here is the SAME as a psychiatrist charged me $400 to hear.

cbt for kids! this book is really hetrocentrist and assumes "mom and dad" families, but looking beyond that it provides a really simplistic overview of cbt and other techniques to address kids' (and grown-ups', really) anxiety.

Dynamic book that addresses anxiety issues in children in language they can understand. It gives coping techniques and pages for children to draw their "fears and feelings."
