This story was written with heart and focus. The main characters were very likeable and I really enjoyed the quick pacing of the plot, as well as the variety of supporting characters. The mystery and an added touch of romance worked well together. The story left just enough loose ends to pull the reader into wanting to read the next installment. Will definitely read the next book in the series.
Like this first book. It is he first book i read from Mariah Stewart but I am wiling to give the series a try.
Over the course of the last year, I’ve read the majority of Mariah Stewart’s books. I started with the Chesapeake Bay diaries, and backtracked from there. I really enjoy the way characters from all of her books reappear in other stories. I read the subsets in order, but I would have gotten the most pleasure from reading her books in order from her first published work to her last. Regardless, it’s still interesting to read the origins of some of her characters. I was hesitant to read Mercy Street because it seemed so different from her other stories, but once again, I was sucked in. It did take me several chapters to really get into it, but once I did, I found myself unable to put it down. And as soon as I finished it, I immediately picked up Cry Mercy and then Acts of Mercy to see where the characters went from there. My only complaint is that there are only three books in this particular series.
