They employed a brutality which is staggering by today's standards. A fresh look at some of the world's most fascinating, iconic, and truly ruthless leaders, how they came to power and stayed in power, how they treated their subjects, friends and family, demonstrated battlefield leadership and achieved transformations at home.

Produced for the HISTORY Channel in 2009, this 2-Disk 376-minute 8-episode biopics look into eight feared leaders of the world's most brutal, fascinating, iconic and ruthless human beings.
The film sheds light on these leaders and how they really came to power while killing off family members.
Expert interviewes, on-location shots and CGI help to re-create their environments and provide stunning reenactments.
If you're a history buff, this is a must-see.

The patron Janice 21383 put it well: this program "is about as bad as it can be"! ZERO star!

Ancients Behaving Badly is about as bad as it can be, without being actually wrong. On the one hand, there are sincere-looking academics involved, who provide brief insight. On the other, the series is designed for viewers with the attention span of a gnat. There is even a scale, which I call the B.S.-o-meter, that purports to scientifically measure if the subject is a sociopathic killer, or merely a pragmatic one. If you're looking for depth or complexity, look elsewhere.

Collection of eight documentaries on various tyrants, lunatics, and rulers of the ancient world (though I'd place Genghis Khan further ahead in time). The documentaries examine these people's bloody track records in various ways, with commentary and contributions from historians, archaeologists, psychiatrists, medical experts, weapons experts, and more, and follows in their footsteps. About the only problem of note that I had with the documentaries was unneeded animated vignettes, which looked badly done.
