Why doesn't the library have more copies of this movie available since their is like 20 holds , it isn't fair to wait 3 months for a DVD only to check it out for a week because I can't renew it because their is hold request especially since I live a good 17 miles away from a library .

Roles by both Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman that are outside their normal roles but both well done. Definitely a top movie for this genre in this era. Too much smoking... A movie well worth watching.

VERY GOOD 1998 film with fine acting by both Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise in intriguing storyline.

Possibly the only decent movie Tom Cruise ever made, but, of course, Dustin Hoffman is the standout.

Great classic. Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise are excellent as usual!

classic road trip movie... 97x the future of rock and roll! Also interesting to see how autism spectrum was portrayed 30 years ago

Dustin Hoffman did an excellent job in his realization of a severely autistic individual, though not being intimately familiar with such cases, I couldn’t attest to the accuracy of the screenplay’s characterization which at times impressed me as overly exaggerated especially during the first half of the film. Cruise seemed a natural for the role of Charlie Babbitt and it was interesting to see how both brothers evidenced personality dysfunction but in quite differing dimensions. I was pleased to see that as the film progressed a deeper sense of self-realization and mutual understanding on behalf of both Charlie and Raymond was developed which gave greater overall substance to the story.

It has been many years since I last saw " Rain Man", but it still holds up as one of the best films I have ever seen. That is one of the beauties of a classic movie. You can watch it again and love it just as much the second time around. Dustin Hoffman deserves all the praise he has received for his performance as an autistic savant. That is not an easy role to play. In the hands of Dustin Hoffman, he consistently gives the character warmth and personality. Tom Cruise should not be overlooked as his dishonest brother that will learn about life from his savant brother. Few of us will ever meet an autistic savant but through " Rain Man" we gain a personal insight into these remarkable individuals lives. A great family movie. We are not all the same. Some are just more special than others. That is why we have such things as the "Special Olympics". Rain Man will remain on the top shelf of Classic American Films with me.

If you like this movie then I suggest you search for the great Indian movie (Tarre Zameen Par) means every child is special.

Dr. Bruner: Well, Raymond? Aren't you more comfortable in your favorite K-Mart clothes?

Charlie: Tell him, Ray.

Raymond: K-Mart sucks.

Dr. Bruner: Oh, I see.

Charlie: Hey, Ray: you just made a joke.

Raymond: Yeah, a joke. Ha ha ha... ha.
