Excellent book to read while planning a trip. The content is based upon experiences of professional photographers whose zeal for the perfect travel picture may be way above that of the rest of us relatively sane travellers but there is lots of practical common sense advice that is easy to absorb and exploit. It was interesting for me to learn what these pros are willing to do for a great picture. The pictures, as would be expected, are first class demonstrations of the techniques explained in the text.

Hints from National Geographic "Traveler" photographers. You don't have to do any travelling to apply them. In fact, it is suggested that you practice techniques and get thoroughly familiar with your DSL or other digital camera, before you travel.
